Our History

The Beginning

After the second world war, Pete DiFranco and Paul Coletti began servicing transmissions together in Somerville, MA. It was not until 1957 that together they opened their first shop- Hydramatic Sales & Service- also in Somerville at the time. As automatic transmissions grew in popularity, the need for service was also increasing. It was soon realized that obtaining extra core transmissions of each type and rebuilding them for inventory could be a new strategy to get vehicles back on the road quicker as transmissions could simply be exchanged in a matter of hours. As business increased, the need for other locations became apparent. Locations in Quincy and Dedham were added to keep up with demand at the time.

Today, Hydramatic continues to service transmissions in the Boston area at the Dedham location which is owned by Paul DiFranco, son of Pete DiFranco. Though transmission technology has changed, our commitment and passion to the industry has remained the same. We continue to service all types of transmissions and be your dealership alternative.
